Why does strangles matter?

Strangles is the most common infectious disease in horses, and it is extremely contagious!

Horses with strangles suffer pain and distress, and are at risk of life-threatening complications.

Around one in every ten horses will become a strangles carrier after infection unless they are tested, and treated if necessary.

Strangles does not discriminate – it can happen to anyone!

Time for action

Our 2016 strangles survey told us that horse owners know how to Stamp Out Strangles – we just need to turn that knowledge into action!

There is already real appetite for change. Did you know that in our survey, 1,600 horse owners (80%) told us they'd prefer to use a yard that screens new horses?

Together we can #StampOutStrangles in our horses, on our yards and across the UK.
