Found upside down in a pile of rubble and filth, Barney was just a foal when he was rescued in December of 2022. He was very thin under his thick coat and had pressure sores all over his body. He had been abandoned and at only five months old, Barney's life was at severe risk.

Redwings vets treated a wound on Barney's hip with surgery and weeks of patient treatment. Thanks to their expert care the last dressing was removed in late January. With dedication and care, frail, vulnerable Barney has transformed into a happy, healthy foal and is making new friends.

The help we bring, within our sanctuary fences and beyond
Barney is one of over one hundred horses and ponies who came into Redwings sanctuary care during 2022, and our intervention and help improved the lives of hundreds more.
“It's wonderful to see him now – he's bright and full of character, skipping and bucking around his stable and going out for a daily turnout on the woodchips. He's doing so well.”
