Gentle mare Zig Zag has found a new loving home at Ebony Horse Club – a charity dedicated to supporting, educating and inspiring young people in London through a love of horses.
In early June 2015, Ebony Horse Club welcomed a new member to their family in the form of Zig Zag – a beautiful skewbald cob rehomed to them from Redwings.
Seven-year-old Zig Zag was rescued in 2009 from Hertfordshire where she and ten other mares were found in a terrible state of neglect. With lots of love and care from our sanctuary farm and vet teams, Zig Zag and her companions – all of whom were named after a knitting and sewing theme – soon made fantastic recoveries, and their affectionate natures meant many of them were perfect for our rehoming programme – the Redwings Guardianship Scheme.
When Ebony Horse Club approached us about the possibility of rehoming one of the Sanctuary’s rescue residents, our Operations Manager Rachel Angell knew just the pony: “Zig Zag has the perfect calm and gentle manner to work with and inspire disadvantaged children and we are absolutely delighted to support Ebony Horse Club in their fantastic work. Seeing the road to recovery for our horses and their finding a happy new home is incredibly rewarding for us, and we’re all so proud of Zig Zag!”
Ebony Horse Club uses access to horses and riding to transform the lives of children from some of the most deprived areas of London. Through horse care and horsemanship they teach life skills, help children to overcome challenges and enable them to develop aspirations for their future, so Redwings Zig Zag will play an integral role in changing the lives of young people.
Commenting on their new addition, Kyle McCullock, Yard Manager at Ebony Horse Club said: “We are delighted to offer Zig Zag a new home where she will be loved and adored; she’s a beautiful pony with a lovely temperament.
“We are so grateful to Redwings for allowing us to rehome her, as finding suitable ponies can often be very challenging. Zig Zag has gone down a storm with our young people already, and we look forward to developing our relationship with Redwings into the future and sending regular updates on the sweet and adorable Zig Zag.”
