We would like to reassure the public that we and other animal welfare organisations continue to keep a close eye on the horses at Paper Mill Lane in Bramford, Ipswich and thank them for raising concerns about their welfare. The RSPCA attended the site on 28 Dec and a Redwings field officer last attended this morning (5 Jan 2017) with the local police and a local RSPCA Inspector.
Our visit today highlighted several horses that are underweight. The public had also raised concerns about a bay that was on a short tether. The tether has now been lengthened and all the horses have been given forage. Advice has been given to the owner regarding the horses' feeding requirements through the colder weather as well as on worming. Two horses in a nearby field were also identified with long feet and this is being addressed by their owner.
We will continue to monitor the site to ensure that our advice is being followed, and talks remain ongoing to establish a longer-term plan for the horses with the collaboration of the horses’ owner.
Anyone with new welfare concerns for any animal can call the RSPCA on 0300 1234 999 or Redwings Horse Sanctuary on 01508 481008 / welfare@redwings.co.uk
