01 December 2025
Bonfire Night might be behind us for another year but with New Year's Eve just a few weeks away, the issue of fireworks is still a real concern for many people. Here is just some of the activity that has been keeping the topic on the political agenda recently:
Julia Buckley MP has tabled a Ten Minute Rule Motion on fireworks noise levels that will take place on the 3rd December. This does not allow other MPs to speak in support of her proposal and time is strictly limited, but it does keep the issue on the political agenda and is another mechanism by which MPs are continuing calls for change.
Redwings received an updated Government response to our petition ask after the Petitions Committee requested a more specific statement. You can read our reaction to the revised response here.
Redwings emailed the Petitions Committee to ask that consideration is given to the seasonal issue of fireworks when scheduling our fireworks petition for debate. They have told us the date will be announced 'in due course'.
Many MPs have shared photos and statements of support on their social media feeds and several have asked parliamentary questions about the impact of fireworks, requiring a response from the relevant government department.
What can you do to help keep this important topic moving?
Please keep signing and sharing the petition to help us achieve 200,000 signatures.
Please keep writing to your MP to ask them for their support for a review of fireworks legislation.
