Dear [INSERT MP NAME],
I am writing to you as my MP to ask you to attend the Petition Committee’s parliamentary debate on fireworks which is taking place on Monday 19th January 2026 at 4.30pm in Westminster Hall.
I fully support the Keep Horses In Mind fireworks campaign, which is run by Redwings Horse Sanctuary and aims to raise awareness of the awful impact fireworks can have on these beautiful animals.
Redwings has first-hand experience of the devastation fireworks can cause. Despite efforts to keep them safe within the sanctuary, three rescued horses in the care of Redwings - Cinders, Sprite and Percy - all died in incidents relating to fireworks being let off near the centres where they lived.
Due to this extremely distressing experience, Redwings is now campaigning for the maximum noise level for consumer fireworks to be reduced from 120 to 90 decibels. Over 175,000 people have already backed this change by signing Redwings’ petition on the Parliament website.
[IF RELEVANT, YOU MAY WISH TO ADD A PARAGRAPH HERE DETAILING YOUR OWN PERSONAL MOTIVATIONS FOR SUPPORTING THE CAMPAIGN AND/OR THE IMPACT YOU HAVE SEEN FIREWORKS HAVE ON HORSES]
Redwings conducted a survey of UK adult horse owners between December 2024 and January 2025, receiving 5,128 complete responses. Among the findings, as detailed in Redwings’ Fireworks and Horses Report, were that more than two thirds of respondents had firsthand experience of distressing, sometimes tragic incidents as a result of fireworks being let off close to a horse in their care, and that more than 87% of equestrians worry about the potential impact of fireworks on their horse. More than 95% of respondents supported calls for tighter fireworks regulation.
It isn’t only horses that can be negatively affected by fireworks. Other pets, livestock wildlife and many people can also find them extremely distressing. As my MP, your backing for tighter fireworks regulation would mean a great deal and I would be grateful if you could let me know that you will be representing the views of me and many other constituents by attending and speaking in support of tighter fireworks regulation at the debate on 19th January.
Yours sincerely,
