I’ve been at Redwings for over a decade now, starting as a volunteer in 2008 before joining the visitor centre at Caldecott the following year. I then worked on our farm at Hapton, Norfolk in 2011 and joined the maintenance team in 2017. As of 2021, I am the foreman and lead the maintenance team.

My role means that I am kept very busy around our various sites, making sure that our horses have a safe environment to live in. While I oversee the larger projects undertaken by my team, it isn’t particularly uncommon to receive a call with an emergency job that we need to do straight away – this could be anything from a leaking water tank to a fence that a horse has broken through and got loose (it does happen)!

I find working in the maintenance team keeps you very busy, but it is also extremely rewarding because I am part of a team where the work we do helps to ensure the welfare of our residents. Knowing that I’ve done my bit to keep them safe and secure is my favourite part of the job!
