I began my career with Redwings at the beginning of 2016 after the merger with Mountains Animal Sanctuary. I joined Redwings Mountains as Visitors Manager, coming from a background in hospitality. My role at that time was to oversee the visitor experience and to offer guidance and support to our lovely Visitor Centre team in delivering a lovely, fun, and educational day out for all the family.
In 2017 I took on the role of Centre Manager and with that the responsibility of overseeing day to day operations here at Mountains. It’s been a real privilege to be able come into work every day to a job that’s so rewarding and being a part of a larger team dedicated to improving equine welfare UK wide. As a former horse owner, I understand only too well the huge responsibility of keeping them fed and well looked after on a daily basis. When you consider just how many equines are under Redwings’ care, many with very complex care needs, that’s just mind boggling!
I feel incredibly lucky to be able to be a part of that, in a role that can most definitely be described as my dream job. Where else can you go to work and be surrounded by lovely animals to care for, beautiful scenery and get to work alongside like-minded people?
Not forgetting our wonderful Redwings Mountains visitors of course. I’ve had the pleasure of meeting many new faces over the years, watching them build lasting friendships with our equine residents and staff, and coming back again and again, even in the harshest of weather. It is Scotland after all, and our visitors always go that extra mile - wellies and a rain jacket usually!
Favourite resident: I can honestly say that I do indeed love all our residents here at Mountains, but if I were pressed to choose one in particular it would be Adoption Star Dayzee. She has a real sassy side to her, a cheeky pocket rocket. She likes to do things in her own time, enjoys her food and sleeping in the sunshine. I think she may be my spirit animal!
