Redwings continues to count the cost of damage to its Mountains visitor centre in Scotland after it was ravaged by Storm Babet – and more rain is expected later this week.

A key bridge connecting areas of the site, barns, field shelters and fencing are just some of the facilities that have been battered by immensely strong winds and unprecedented rainfall.

At Redwings, we love our "Golden Oldies" and especially enjoy celebrating those residents who have been with us through so much of our history as a charity.

Visitors to Redwings Ada Cole in Essex may be familiar with Hackney Native cross, Amadeus, but did you know that he has been a resident since before Ada Cole Memorial Stables merged with Redwings in 2005?!

A Shetland pony called Alfie has been offered a home here at Redwings after being found with a severe wound on his cheek, the result of a suspected dog bite.

Alfie, who is 15 years old, came to Redwings after his owner discovered him in his paddock with a nasty wound to his face and contacted us for help.

You can watch a video about Alfie's journey so far here:

People who interact with horses often wish they could tell us how they feel. But by tuning into horses’ body language and facial expressions, we can discover a wealth of information that helps to indicate how positively or negatively a horse is feeling at that point in time.

Horses tend to communicate visually rather than verbally because it much safer for prey animals not to make noises that might draw unwanted attention. They are incredibly good at reading subtle signals given out by other horses, but that are very easy for humans to miss.
