Suzie Fletcher has become an official charity Ambassador for Redwings Horse Sanctuary.
The Master saddler and leather expert, known for her TV work and memoir The Sun Over the Mountains, is a life-long lover of horses and has newly welcomed Fliss, a Welsh D cross, into her life on loan, describing her as ‘beautiful’ and consuming ‘every whisper of spare time’.
After visiting the previous year, Suzie took part in the horse welfare charity’s first Book Festival in May 2024, where she did a Q and A in front of a sell-out crowd at Redwings’ Caldecott in Norfolk, and the relationship has developed from there.
“I feel so at home at Redwings, and I hope to be able to support all the great work this charity does for our equine friends."
“I have been nuts about horses forever. My dad used to joke that 'horse' was the first word I spoke.
“I remember making saddles for my rocking horse and my Cindy horse as a young child. With a father who was a watchmaker and a mother who was a skilled clothes-designer it’s really no surprise I have ended up where I have.
“I feel so lucky that I’ve been able to spend nearly 50 years working alongside these incredible animals and I’m absolutely thrilled to be joining the Redwings team.”
Redwings Ambassadors are not paid, and Suzie is generously donating her time to the charity for free.
Jennie Roberts, Redwings’ Social Media Manager, said: “We’re over the moon that Suzie’s relationship with us here at Redwings has now been made official.
“Ambassadors like Suzie can really help to spread the word about Redwings’ work.
“We are so excited to have this special connection with her, born out of a genuine shared love of horses and passion for horse welfare.”
