We're delighted to share that following the huge success of our petition asking for the maximum noise level for consumer fireworks to be reduced from 120 to 90 decibels, Redwings Campaigns and Policy Manager Helen Whitelegg was invited to be a guest speaker at the National Equine Forum in London recently.
The event, of which HRH Princess Anne is the President and of which Redwings is a sponsor, brings together leading voices from across the equestrian sector for a day of important insights, discussions and updates shaping the future of the equine industry.
Helen shared with NEF delegates the details of how our fireworks campaign has progressed rapidly over the last year, from our roundtable discussion on the uses (or otherwise) of the Animal Welfare Act in fireworks incidents to the incredible success of our petition and the well-attended MPs debate that arose from it.
Helen's guest in attendance was Joanna Barnett, who owned Tallulah, a beautiful horse whose tragic story we shared in the campaign, as she sadly passed away as a direct result of fireworks being set off one New Year's Eve.
The Government petition closed on 4th March with just over 184,000 signatures and a debate on it was held at Westminster in January. We'd like to say a HUGE thank you to everyone who supported the petition, and we will be continuing to campaign on this important matter for as long as we need to.
