Handsome Samson and Goliath, who arrived at Redwings in October, have got some brand new rugs to keep them warm this winter!
Samson and Goliath are Jutland horses, which is a special breed of Danish draft horse, and arrived at the Sanctuary from Crosskennan Lane Animal Sanctuary in County Antrim, Northern Ireland. Since 2014, Redwings has helped offer residents at Crosskennan Lane when the sanctuary either doesn’t have the space to offer them a forever home or when they require specialist care - as with these two large chaps!
With January being as cold and wet as it has been, it can be a challenge to keep those residents who need it, warm and dry. As Samson and Goliath are a little larger than most of our residents, none of our rugs fitted them! So we had to look a little further afield to draft horse rug suppliers, which is when the Big Horse Shop stepped in and kindly offered us a discount on their rugs.
Joanne Exton, director of the Big Horse Shop said: “When we heard Samson and Goliath’s story and the work that Redwings does, we were more than happy to help! And we’ve never supplied rugs for Jutland horses before, so that was exciting for us”.
A big thank you to Joanne and her team for being #RedwingsAngels! And don’t the boys look handsome in their new rugs?
