Redwings Guardian, Deirdre Bell, has organised a Christmas Fayre, which will take place on Sunday 20th November, from 10am to 3.30pm, at the village hall, London Road, Hertford Heath, near Harlow, SG13 7RH.
All are welcome to pop in and browse over 20 stalls offering unique gifts and treats – a perfect opportunity to pick up some early Christmas pressies for family, friends and even pets.
There will also be a tombola with prizes including jewellery, games, soft toys and the odd bottle of wine… or two!
Deirdre is the proud Guardian of Kizzy – a black Shetland pony who she rehomed from the Ada Cole Memorial Stables (before it became part of the Redwings Horse Sanctuary in 2005) over 20 years ago as a companion for her mare.
When her mare sadly passed away in 2004, Deirdre rehomed a second chestnut Shetland pony from Ada Cole called Genie. Kizzy and Genie spent many happy years together until, unfortunately, Genie was put to sleep in 2010.
Kizzy is now over 30-years-old but is still very much enjoying life in his Guardian home.
“I would encourage anybody to be a Guardian. There are too many unwanted horses and ponies, and it is very rewarding knowing you can give a home to one and free up a space at the Sanctuary,” said Deirdre.
“Ada Cole was always my favourite charity and I remember my father taking me there when I was a child, back when the stables were situated near Barnet!”
Last year, Deirdre organised a similar Christmas Fayre, which raised a fantastic £222. This is enough to pay for nine training sessions for a rescued horse looking for a loving new home.
We hope as many people as possible will support this year’s event!
