We’re wishing a happy retirement to one of our much loved residents – adorable pony Cauli – who is stepping down from the Redwings Adoption Scheme.
Retirement simply means Cauli will no longer be available for new adopters, but she will keep in touch with her existing sponsors. Cauli is currently located at our headquarters where she is receiving ongoing veterinary treatment for lameness issues, but should she be able to return home to Redwings Caldecott, her fans will still be able to visit her for free.
This lovely girl was found heartlessly abandoned in a cauliflower field in 2008, hence her name. She was standing over the body of her friend who had sadly passed away. When she was rescued, Cauli had a severe eye injury and was extremely nervous.
When she was brought to Redwings, she had surgery to remove her poorly eye, and with plenty of TLC from both the vets and her carers, she become a loving, sweet-natured pony making her the perfect candidate for joining the Adoption Scheme.
Sadly over the last year, Cauli has been suffering with ongoing lameness, meaning she has had to spend much time at our Horse Hospital to ensure she receives the best possible veterinary attention and farriery. Cauli suffers from Equine Metabolic Syndrome (EMS) and Cushings Disease (PPID), both of which mean she is at high risk of a painful condition called laminitis which requires careful management and veterinary treatment.
As this may be ongoing, after much thought, we believe it is best for Cauli to enjoy a slower pace of life and retire from her Adoption Star duties.
Sponsoring a Redwings Adoption Star costs just £15 per year. Adopters receive photographs and updates from their Adoption Star about their latest adventures and antics, as well as access to their online multi-media diary and an invitation to their birthday party!
