Running for Red!

Redwings fundraiser runs 5k

Redwings supporter Vicky Ellis recently raised £200 by taking on the challenge of a sponsored five kilometre run, with added obstacles!

Vicky is the ex-owner of one of our residents, the handsome Mr Red Puff, or Red as he is known for short. Vicky first contacted Redwings to ask for help after Red was involved in a serious road accident that left him with a severe fear of travelling in a horse box.

Due to his fear of travelling Red faced a very uncertain future, so Redwings offered him a place at the Sanctuary as an exceptional circumstances case, knowing that we could provide him with a safe and happy home where he didn’t need to travel anywhere else. Vicky even rode Mr Red Puff to Redwings Hapton HQ, where he has been a much-loved resident ever since.

Talking about her fundraising race, Vicky said: “Running is not usually my thing, but my friend talked me into it as good way to fundraise! There were times I didn’t think I’d make it, but I did, even to the giant slide at the end!” She then continued to explain what Redwings means to her: ”I greatly appreciate the care that Redwings have given to my little Red Puff, and the fact they have enabled me to maintain a relationship with him through my visits.”

The £200 that Vicky raised could help to equip a member of our rehoming team with the essential equipment they need, including a riding hat, boots and body protector, to enable them to continue to help our residents find loving forever homes outside the Sanctuary, and in turn make more room for those who desperately need our help!
