We’re constantly amazed by the fantastic ways that our supporters choose to fundraise for us and help horses and donkeys in need. When Redwings supporter Megan Hutchinson signed up to run the Milton Keynes Half Marathon in March, it was her first half marathon and she knew it would be a huge challenge, but a wonderful way to support her favourite cause.
Here Megan tells us why she chose to fundraise for Redwings and what is was like to take on her first half marathon.
"On 12th March I ran my first ever half marathon all in the name of Redwings. Redwings is a charity that has been close to my heart ever since I was a little girl obsessed with horses. Beginning with Christmas and birthday presents of sponsorships, a lifelong relationship with Redwings was born. Now, finding myself with a broken wrist that left me unable to ride for a year, I decided to challenge myself and improve my fitness by running.
When the chance came to run a half marathon - a massive challenge for my current fitness level! - I saw a wonderful opportunity to support my favourite cause and to do a bit more for the charity I love so much. And as Redwings does so much for equines across the UK, relying totally on its supporters and kind donations, I wanted to take this chance to keep them going in their important fight for horses, ponies and donkeys!
The half marathon was hard and, in typical British fashion, windy, hot, rainy and cold all at the same time! I hit my target time of 2 hours and 30 minutes, (actually a minute over, but who's counting?), but the most satisfying feeling was knowing I have managed to raise money for such a worthy cause. Good luck Redwings in everything you do for equines everywhere, and I'm already thinking about how to challenge myself next!"
We’re so impressed by Megan’s efforts – and by reaching her fundraising target of £100. This fantastic amount could help to care for 10 of our residents for a day or fund health checks for two rescued horses!
If you’ve been inspired by Megan’s fundraising, why not take on a challenge of your own? With spring (almost!) in the air, now is the perfect time to get out and about and show your support for horses in need. Once you’ve decided on your challenge, it’s easy to start fundraising by setting up a JustGiving [link: https://www.justgiving.com/redwingshs] page.
We’re here to help you too! Whether you have a question about fundraising, would like a fundraising pack for your challenge or just need some encouragement along the way, please get in touch by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org or phoning us on 01508 481000.
