I arrived at Redwings in 2012 when our Aylsham Visitor Centre had just opened. Originally, I worked as a team member on a short-term contract, but it kept getting renewed and so I kept staying, and here I am five years later as the Visitor Centre Manager!
My first experience of Redwings was as a child. I remember Lucy, a horse that was on the Adoption Scheme at the time, and I remember thinking that she had the same name as me! So, I adopted her, became a supporter and have had the Redwings connection ever since.
I love the varied nature of my job. When the visitor centre is open, I love to meet our supporters, who range from those who have never been before to our regular visitors. One of my highlights was meeting a lady in her 80s who had never stroked a donkey before – it was very exciting to help her to do that!
On our closed days, I might be involved in helping out when we give a tour to an educational group, supporting other colleagues at events or travelling to other sites or to our headquarters.
I’m really proud that I work for a charity that tirelessly works towards the promotion of horse welfare, and my role is incredibly rewarding because of that.
Favourite resident: I love them all but if I had to pick, I would choose Amigo, Owl and Cookie as they were the first residents I met when I started working at Redwings. Given their backgrounds, I find it massively inspiring that they are now so friendly and full of personality!
