I’ve been at Redwings for the best part of a decade now, starting at our visitor centre at Caldecott back in 2009, working on our farm at Hapton, Norfolk in 2011 and now as part of our maintenance team for the past couple of years.

My role means that I am kept very busy around our various sites, making sure that our horses have a safe environment to live in. On a day-to-day basis, I’m involved in all kinds of work, which could be anything from putting in new fencing to painting a stable, and this could be at any of our sites across the country.

It isn’t particularly uncommon to receive a call with an emergency job that we need to do straight away – this could be anything from a leaking water tank to a fence that a horse has broken through and got loose (it does happen)!

I find working in the maintenance team keeps you very busy, but it is also extremely rewarding because I am part of a team where the work we do helps to ensure the welfare of our residents. Knowing that I’ve done my bit to keep them safe and secure is my favourite part of the job!
