We're very proud to be joining in this year's inaugural Norfolk Day celebrations!
From the rescue of one horse in 1984, Redwings has grown to become the UK’s largest horse sanctuary charity – caring for more rescued horses every day than anyone else.
While our headquarters are based in Hapton, south of Norwich, we care for 1,500 rescued horses, ponies, donkeys and mules across the country, with an additional 500 living in loving Guardian homes outside of the Sanctuary as part of our rehoming programme.
In celebration of our Norfolk roots, we're offering visitors to our two visitor centres in the county the chance to win prizes in two special competitions.
Redwings Aylsham, north of Norwich, and Redwings Caldecott, near Great Yarmouth – which together are home to over 200 rescued horses, ponies, donkeys and mules – will be hosting exclusive raffles on 27th and 28th July with the lucky winners each taking home a Norfolk-themed prize bundle. The bundles include a Gnaw Chocolate gift pack, a set of Norfolk preserves and a Redwings cuddly toy.
From 27th July to 29th July, visitors to these two centres will also be challenged to photograph their day out and share their favourite snaps on our Facebook (/RedwingsHorseSanctuary) or Twitter (@RedwingsHS) pages. The talented photographer behind the winning image will receive a year’s free sponsorship of an Adoption Star horse or donkey living at either of the two centres.
On top of the Norfolk Day celebrations, Redwings Aylsham and Redwings Caldecott will also be hosting family activities across the weekend as part of our programme of school summer holiday fun, including fascinating talks and meets and greets with some of their most characterful rescued residents. And, best of all, entry is free!
Alison Lanchester, Head of Fundraising, said: “We’re really looking forward to taking part in the first ever Norfolk Day! Over the last 30 years, Redwings has become one of the leading equine welfare charities in the UK and we’re very proud to say it all started in Norfolk and to still have our headquarters here.
“We are a charity funded entirely by donations from the public, and we want to say big thank you to the generosity of the people of Norfolk whose support has enabled us to grow over the years and ensured we can continue to be there for horses in need.
“Our visitor centres are always free to enter, but we hope this Norfolk Day more people will take the opportunity to meet some of our four-legged residents, hear their stories and find out more about Redwings – and, fingers crossed, win a fantastic prize in our competitions!”
