Retirement livery

There is a growing number of establishments which specialise in the care of retired equines. These usually provide grass based livery and will be in a similar price range. The added benefits of retirement livery is knowing that the staff are committed to caring for non-working animals and have the knowledge to deal with a wide range of veterinary conditions which are associated with retirement. There will be also plenty of suitable companionship and an easy-going life provided for equine residents. There are naturally some livery yards that are far better than others, so look carefully at the facilities, knowledge and level of care that are offered.

Horses grazing

The increasing recognition that equines deserve to enjoy a happy, secure retirement has led to a significant growth in specialist retirement livery yards around the country.

As a retirement specialist, Redwings is always keen to be able to provide useful information to the owners of retired equines who turn to us for advice. If you have used a retirement livery establishment and would like to tell us about your experience and any details that you found particularly helpful or unhelpful please email us by clicking here: Externalwelfare@redwings.co.uk
