Lightfoot
Lightfoot had been of concern to Redwings’ welfare staff for a number
of months before he arrived at the Sanctuary. He was very underweight
and was not provided with a rug or extra food when winter arrived in
2003. It took several weeks to make contact with Lightfoot’s owner
in order to explain our concerns and offer advice to help him provide
everything his horse needed.
The situation was monitored in the hope that improvements would become
evident. When Lightfoot still had not gained weight or condition and
was struggling with cold and wet weather several weeks later, the decision
was made to remove him in a joint operation with the RSPCA and transfer
him into Redwings’ care. Following his removal, the owner finally agreed
to sign over Lightfoot into Redwings’ permanent care.
Lightfoot suffers from a long-term problem with the tendons in his
back legs which mean he will not be able to be used for riding. But,
as you can see from the photographs, he has put on weight very quickly
with the warmth and good food that Redwings provided and is clearly
enjoying life in his new home.
