Delilah & Samson
In March 2006 a mare and foal were found abandoned in Hertfordshire. The RSPCA attended and found a Shetland mare, since named Delilah, tied to a fence outside an area of farmland. She was secured with an ill-fitting tether rope that had cut into her skin over a number of months, causing a deep flesh wound.

Delilah had a very young black and white foal at foot who they named Samson. With the help of Redwings' Field Officer in Essex both ponies were transported to Redwings Ada Cole Rescue Stables.
Despite appeals by the RSPCA for the owner to come forward, no one claimed the ponies and they were signed over into Redwings' permanent care. Delilah’s wound has healed perfectly and she proved such a friendly soul that it was no trouble to find her a guardian home through our re-homing scheme.

Now weaned and independent, little Samson (below) is a cheeky little chap. He has shown some initial trouble with his stifles (joints in his hind legs) but is under the watchful eye of our veterinary staff who make sure he is happy and comfortable.
