Our first Aylsham adoption!
We are delighted to announce that we have chosen the first adoption horse to spearhead the opening of our new visitor centre in Aylsham later this year.
We acquired the 200-plus acre site last year at a time when horse abandonments and cases of neglect were escalating at an alarming rate. Plans are to initially convert 100 acres to sanctuary-standard paddock land – meaning costly fencing, grass seed and shelters to name just a few expenses.
Redwings Fundraising Manager Gemma Carnell explains: “The ever increasing problem of neglected and abandoned horses prompted us to try and increase our facilities as we are, quite simply, full at the moment. When complete, our Visitor Centre at Aylsham will enable us to provide care and safety to many more horses, ponies and donkeys in need of rescue.”
“Gulliver is the perfect choice as the first adoption horse for Aylsham as he himself is an abandonment case. Gulliver arrived at Redwings with his mother, Cinders, after being found by the RSPCA. Cinders was emaciated and totally exhausted and Gulliver, her foal, was only a few days old when they were found….it really was a case of being rescued just in time.”
Adopting Gulliver costs £12.50 a year. Every penny raised contributes to food, medical and farrier costs for Gulliver, his mother and their companions.
