Blue

Blue became a resident at the Sanctuary when he was 23 years old. His former owner contacted Redwings in 2007 when his livery yard was sadly forced to close after 20 years for personal and financial reasons. The other horses and ponies at the yard were able to be re-homed elsewhere but his owner just could not find a home for veteran Blue as he was a stallion, so approached Redwings to see if we could help.

The owner was seriously unwell and close to retirement, and had to delay hospital treatment due to not being able to find Blue a home. In the light of all the exceptional circumstances in this case, we were more than happy to step in and offer Blue a home. As it is Redwings’ policy not to breed horses and because stallions have to be kept on their own, Blue was castrated shortly after his arrival, despite his advanced years.

Because he had been a stallion for such a long time and was therefore used to living on his own, Blue found it very difficult to make friends with other horses at the sanctuary. However, he formed an unlikely friendship with beautiful gentle mare Blackspot who took him under his wing. The pair became inseperable and enjoyed a quiet life together at our North Norwich centre.
