New arrival at Redwings!!

Redwings has offered a home to a very unusual equine. ‘Red’ the horse has settled in very well despite being quite different to the other horses at the Sanctuary.

Red stands at anything from 14.3hh to 16hh depending on the day, and has a beautiful chestnut coat with a flaxen mane and tail. He sadly suffers from a condition known as ‘Stringhalt’, which unfortunately means he can be stiff in his hind legs and has to walk in a very upright manner. Despite this, he is very well behaved and although always accompanied by a member of Redwings staff, he is so good at ‘join up’ that he doesn’t even need to wear a headcollar.

In truth, he is a bit of a show-off and will happily pose for the camera for hours on end, especially in exchange for cuddles from our visitors. We are delighted to say that after a bit of training from Redwings’ patient staff, he is also excellent to box and travel; although for some reason he always wants to sit in the front seat!

He will stand very well for the farrier but for some reason he is not too keen when we try and trim his lovely coat, and due to the chances of shrinkage, he will almost certainly gallop for cover when it rains.

Red is a very friendly chap and he just loves meeting our visitors on special days...providing we can keep him away from the food, that is! Why not come and meet him soon?
