It's party time for Wensley this SundayCome along to our Warwickshire visitor centre and help celebrate tiny Wensley's birthdayLittle Wensley just loves to meet his fans and as it's his birthday this week. we will be celebrating with a party at our Oxhill Rescue Centre in Warwickshire on Sunday 4th May. As always, entry to the centre is completely free of charge. You do not have to adopt Wensley to come along to his party - everyone is welcome and we know Wensley would love to see you! The Oxhill centre opens at 10am and during the morning there will be a horse care demonstration and then a special visit from our lovely mascots Red and Wings. Then at 1pm, Wensley will have his birthday parade complete with delicious horse-friendly birthday cake and Happy Birthday song!
In the afternoon there will be a kids activity and then a walking tour of the site with one of our experienced members of staff who will be delighted to introduce you to our delightful rescued horses, ponies and donkeys. As well as over 50 residents to meet, our Oxhill Rescue Centre has a café, gift shop and information centre on site, which serves jacket potatoes, baguettes and paninis, plus Fair Trade teas and coffees and delicious cakes. There is a new children's play area on site and we also have picnic areas for visitors to bring their own food if they so choose. Tiny Wensley was rescued along with 71 other horses and ponies from Lincolnshire in 2004. There were big stallions, tiny foals and everything in between. He and his equally cuddly friends are named after different kinds of cheese. Wensley is actually short for Wensleydale, and his best friends are Edam, Gorgy and Mozzarella! This coming Bank Holiday Monday (May 5th) will also see extra themed activities taking place at all three of our visitor centres, in Norfolk, Essex and Warwickshire. The day will centre around Redwings' specialist horse handling teams, including advice on dealing with nervous or difficult horses, and demonstrations of the horse handling techniques we use here at the Sanctuary.
