Expanding our welfare team
Equine welfare is at the heart of the Sanctuary’s work and we are now hoping to expand our welfare team by appointing a new veterinary surgeon.
The post is primarily a clinical one, providing care to new arrivals as well as supporting the in-house veterinary team with ongoing care of equine residents.
There will be the opportunity to assist equines outside the Sanctuary; both by working with other equine welfare organisations and by participating in work to investigate and assist equines in situations of cruelty or neglect.
Equines requiring diagnosis and treatment may be unhandled, nervous or defensive and the successful applicant will need to be confident, patient and sympathetic when handling equines.
An interest in the animal welfare industry is essential, as are strong communication skills and the ability to be innovative, flexible and open minded. A knowledge of the current and proposed legal framework is desirable.
The post would suit someone who wants to further their equine caseload as well as contribute to the Sanctuary’s efforts to improve equine welfare in the UK.
