Help us to help horses like Aero

Please support our Rescue Remedy Appeal so we can help even more horses like Aero.

Thank you for all the support you have given to Redwings' projects in the past. Now we urgently need your help for our new rehabilitation project.

Rehabilitation really works because...

  • It's better for our horses and ponies because they are healthier and happier - we can minimise the use of drugs so they are more likely to associate humans with good experiences.
  • It's better for us because it's safer for us to handle rehabilitated horses and ponies - we can therefore do more for these equines as it doesn't take so much time.
  • It's better for you because it costs less time and money to care for an equine that is calm and friendly - we can use your donations to rescue and look after lots more horses and ponies in future.

It means your generous support goes much further...

For example, meet Aero.

Aero, who can now be treated and handled happily

Aero is a Welsh bay mare who is about four years old. When she was rescued from a common in South Wales in 2004, she had a foal at foot and was heavily pregnant with another. When we first started to handle her, she would literally shake with fear, although she had been quite dominant when she ran wild with her herd.

Aero was taken to our Training and Rehabilitation Yard where our team spent time gaining her trust and working with her to teach her that humans can be friends. Although she is still a little nervous, she is now much easier to handle, and much more comfortable around humans. She even enjoys a groom and a cuddle - it's hard to believe it's the same pony. Last month she was lame and our veterinary team was able to treat her without any need for sedation - that's good news all round!

In the past we have invested your money in rehabilitation by expanding our training facilities, training our staff to handle sensitive horses, acquired new equipment such as handling pens that can be invaluable in working with these equines, and building expertise in horse handling across our sites.

Now we need your help to increase this even further, which will help us secure a healthier and happier future for a lot more ponies like Aero.

£6 buys a hand-shaped training aid for desensitisation

£12 pays for a long line to use when handling a nervous pony

£40 buys a humane training headcollar for working with a pony like Aero.

£100 pays for enough fuel to rescue a pony like Aero from Wales in our horsey ambulance

£1000 covers our costs for one of our handlers to attend a course in Intelligent Horsemanship.
