A Registered Charity
No. 1068911

To provide and promote the welfare, care and protection of horses ponies, donkeys and, mules

...And baby makes 22!

A jenny donkey who was part of the RSPCA Buckinghamshire rescue we helped with this week, has given birth

As many are aware, this week Redwings was involved in a large rescue of horses from Buckinghamshire and we took in 21 equines that day for veterinary care. This was an RSPCA-led case involving local Police and other charities including the ILPH and the Blue Cross. All organisations concerned have worked this week as a team, and Redwings was pleased to involve 30 of its staff and eight horseboxes.

We are delighted today to be able to tell our supporters that one donkey, who was heavily pregnant on Wednesday when we took her, gave birth late on Thursday night to her brown and white foal, who we have named Timothy. Both mother and foal are doing well and being closely monitored. It’s lovely to think that this new life has arrived in the safety and care of our sanctuary.

But what of the other 21 equines that we have? You may have seen Esther in the media. This two-month old darling donkey foal is here with her mum and she is indeed playful, which is a very good sign. Once she is signed over to us, she will have a home for life. We hope that she continues to do well.

Esther the foal is settling in well

We will tell you about the others if and when we can, and we appreciate your understanding that we must do our work in these early days for these equines quickly and without interruption. But please know that we are all thinking of our supporters’ kindness and words of thanks.

As the UK’s largest horse charity, we have unique experience in transporting and handling large numbers of unpredictable equines following a number of large rescues. Redwings Horse Sanctuary has travelled to rescues on many occasions and provided a home from and / or transportation from the place of rescue.

The people that work for Redwings are, like many of the public, animal lovers as well, and Wednesday was a traumatic and difficult day for everyone but now this is a new start for many of these equines and as always our priority is their care and recovery. A huge thank you to everyone who has offered their support and also donations; our work is only possible thanks to the goodwill of the public and we are proud to have shown everyone this week what we can do when the need arises.
