Guardianship Scheme goes liveRedwings’ brand new Rehoming Centre and Guardianship scheme are now up and running. While in the past we have always operated as a sanctuary for horses that could no longer work, we have been increasingly involved in welfare rescues where we have taken in young stock with the potential for a working life. We decided the time was right to establish our own Guardianship scheme so that we could provide these equines with a life outside the Sanctuary, while still keeping them under the watchful eye of Redwings. Our new Parklands Rehoming Centre, based at Hapton, has been completed and has a fully equipped outdoor school, ten stables and a staff facility. The team have begun working with the first few horses and are seeing fantastic progress, with some already placed in their new loan homes.
The Guardianship scheme runs mainly through the website, which should avoid expensive administrative costs for us and long waiting lists for people applying for a loan horse. Potential guardians can enter their details, view suitable horses for loan and then complete an application form, all online and with minimal fuss. We will then get in contact if we would like to take the application further, and in order to arrange a preliminary home visit. Please note: Before anyone can loan one of our horses and ponies we will be carrying out very strict home visits and riding assessments to make sure potential guardians are capable enough and can provide our animals with a comfortable, loving home. We will also be carrying out surprise visits at least every six months to ensure the animal is being cared for properly. Redwings will retain ownership at all times and we reserve the right to take back into our care any equine that we are concerned about, whether temporarily or permanently, no questions asked. To find out more, use the Guardianship Scheme link from the Home page or click here. Unfortunately we are only able to consider homes in Norfolk, Suffolk, Essex or Cambridgeshire at this present time.
