Special Care Centre up and runningFollowing our appeal at the start of this year to create a donkey and special needs Centre, we are delighted to say that the Centre at Newton Flotman, near Norwich, is now up and running and is already home to over forty horses in need. The 65-acre site with a large barn will give rehabilitating equines and those in need of special and more one to one care sanctuary in a secure and happy environment. Donkeys will love the site as when the weather turns chilly the barn on site is particularly crucial for donkey care. The coats of donkeys, unlike horses, are not waterproof so Redwings donkeys have access to lots of shelter and in the winter they live in a barn with access to grazing. The barn will be lined with a deep straw bed and will be a really snug winter donkey residence. Donkeys also bond for life, so care has to be taken that they can stay with their friends and keep in their groups. The land was purchased a few years ago and has previously been used for haymaking. A large proportion of our income comes from legacies and we really appreciate this forward-looking way of supporting Redwings and horses in need. Typically such income is spent on buying land or the infrastructure to help us help more horses. Thank you to all our benefactors and supporters who were able to help us with this appeal.
