Interactive welfare day a real successWe were delighted to attend the Equine Health and Welfare Strategy Open Day at the Lee Valley Riding Centre, Leyton, London on May 23rd.More than 300 people attended the event, which was a chance for both horse owners and those new to the horse world to find out more about the brand new Equine Health and Welfare Strategy from representatives of the equine welfare industry. The chairman of British Dressage Desi Dillingham lent her support to the day and there were activities provided by a number of equine welfare organisations, including Redwings who had plenty for the children to enjoy including worms under a microscope, a 'hands high' measuring board and a presentation of recent Redwings rescues.

Developed by the whole of the equine industry in conjunction with government, the 10 year Vision of the Equine Health and Welfare Strategy is to achieve high standards of health and welfare of equines in Britain and to ensure that everyone responsible for equine health and welfare understands and fulfils their duty of care.
The Interactive Event on May 23rd was organised to mark the start of the Action Phase of the Strategy. Along with representatives from the equine welfare industry, a large number of school children from local schools came along, many of whom had never encountered a horse before, and the day offered them the chance to discover what makes horses so special and why they need extra special care.
