Pony will be spotted at birthday party!Adoption pony Icky will be the star when we reopen our Caldecott Visitor Centre near Great Yarmouth on Thursday 20 March for the Summer season.Our Norfolk visitor centre has been closed for the Winter but will be open again every day from Thursday 20th March 10am to 5pm and we do hope you can come along and support us. To make the opening weekend even more special, adoption pony Icky is having his ‘birthday party’ on Easter Sunday, 23rd March, at the centre and is inviting everyone to come along and wish him many happy returns!
‘Spotty’ Icky will be 20 years old, and has lived at the Sanctuary since he was found by Redwings at a horse sale in 1991 in poor condition. His real name is Haw Idris, the name given to him when he was born and registered with the British Spotted Pony Society. His journey through life must have been at times difficult until the time he was rescued by Redwings and he developed a fear of people as a result but the hard work and patience of his carers has been re-paid as he is now becoming increasingly brave. Today popular and much-loved Icky really enjoys a bit of fuss at special events such as his annual ‘birthday party’! His adopters simply adore him and he frequently has visitors popping in to say hello to him. Birthday parties for ponies are however a quieter affair than for us humans! The day begins at 10am on Easter Sunday and at 1pm, Icky will be given a ‘birthday cake’ in front of his guests. The ‘cake’ is made from his favourite treats such as carrots and yummy soaked pony nuts. He will also have a birthday parade with his handler so everyone gets a pat and, just as importantly, to ensure Icky gets all the fuss he enjoys! There will be plenty of activities going on through the day too with something for all the family to enjoy! Our Caldecott Visitor Centre has over seventy acres of paddocks and is home to many special rescued horses, ponies, donkeys and mules.
