Littlest meets the largest at Redwings
It was a case of ‘tall meets small’ at Redwings Horse Sanctuary recently, when tiny Shetland foal Zachariah met towering Shire Strawberry.

Little Zachariah, just a couple of weeks old and 18 inches tall, met Strawberry when the Shire horse was enjoying her first morning in a paddock after being rested following treatment for a foot abscess. At 16hh, Strawberry is a neck aching 46 inches – nearly four feet - taller than the tiny tot is.
Zachariah’s mum Eve wasn’t too sure about the meeting at first but the fearless foal was far too curious and he went over to say hello.
Both equines were being handled at the time by Redwings staff so there was no risk involved, but it was a lovely sight to see explains press officer Nicola Markwell. “It’s a cliché but Strawberry really is a gentle giant and whilst she is not the largest here, she is certainly a large horse with hooves the size of a generous cereal bowl! She was fascinated by sight of this little foal getting closer to have a better look, and of course encounters like this will teach Zachariah excellent skills around other horses which will doubtless help him for life.”

Zachariah was born on Tuesday 21 March, and was the first Redwings foal of this year born to a group of pregnant mares that were part of a large rescue.
Also born a couple of weeks ago was little Samuel (pictured below) to mum Miriam. Bless!
