Two equine charities to merge to create the UK’s largest horse
charity
Broadley Common, Essex: The Boards of Trustees
of Redwings Horse Sanctuary of Norfolk, and Ada Cole Rescue Stables
of Essex are delighted to announce that their two organisations are
actively pursuing the opportunity to merge. A merger will bring together
the foremost horse sanctuary with a leading equine re-homing organisation
to create the largest horse charity in the UK.
Both charities are committed to equine welfare and work in complementary
ways. Redwings specialises in providing on-going sanctuary care to
rescued horses that no longer have a working life, whereas Ada Cole
has over 70 years of experience and expertise in rehabilitating and
re-homing horses. By bringing together these two areas of expertise,
the combined organisation will have a greater impact on equine welfare
than each charity operating separately.
Chief Executive of Redwings, John Archibald, says: “By joining forces
we will be able to increase the number of horses, ponies, donkeys
and mules that we are able to rescue, rehabilitate, provide ongoing
sanctuary care to where needed and re-home where appropriate.”
Martin Burton, Administrator of Ada Cole is equally enthusiastic:
“Becoming part of the Redwings family is a superb opportunity to
ensure the long-term viability and expand upon the work of the Rescue
Stables.”
It is intended that Ada Cole will be named “The Redwings Ada Cole
Rescue Stables”, and that those who have given homes to Ada Cole
horses or who support it in other ways, such as through sponsoring
a resident animal will, see no change to their relationship with
the stables.
Martin Burton added: “This is the best possible news for Ada Cole,
and a reward for all the efforts of the staff and support of the
public over many difficult years.”
