Outstanding turnout for Show

Thanks to everyone who came out to support us at this year's Redwings Show on May 15th. We had a wonderful day with over 340 class entries and so many smiling faces; thank you so much for coming along!

Our Supreme Champion this year was stunning dun mare Bureside Autumn Mist (pictured below) ridden by Amy Harris who just edged out Ranchwood Banana Split, ridden by Sue Vincent - huge congratulations to you both. But we were so impressed with the standards of all the entries this year, there were so many beautiful horses and ponies there, and we loved seeing you all, thanks for coming along and supporting us!

Fifteen-year-old Amy has been riding Bureside Autumn Mist, stable name Jessie, for four years and the combination have already qualified for Equifest, Ponies UK and the Royal London Show. They hope to qualify for HOYS this year. Amy said: “I really enjoyed the day and I was chuffed to bits to win the Supreme Championship. There were loads of competitors there so I didn’t expect it at all. I couldn’t believe it when the judges pulled me forward!”

Sue Vincent’s beautiful palomino stallion Ranchwood Banana Split, meanwhile, brought home a haul of prizes, including the Ring One Championship, Veteran Championship and the Spillers Best Condition Championship. Sue also won in the In-Hand and Ridden Veteran Horse Showing area qualifiers, which were added to the schedule for the first time this year.

Sue has owned the 16-year-old Banana Split (stable name Mac) since he was two, and although he has had great success in affiliated showjumping, this is the first year that he has made outings in the showing world.

Sue said: “I was absolutely blown away with his performance. This is a complete change of direction for us and I am chuffed to pieces and so grateful for the opportunity. There was an awesome turnout on Sunday and I was very impressed with how well organised it was. We had a lovely day.”

So high was the turnout for the Veteran Horse Showing area qualifiers that the ridden class was split into three age groups; and it was fantastic to see so many veteran horses in such fantastic condition. Winners of the other two classes were Emily Gibbons with Clockwork Orange and last year’s Best Condition Champion Catherine Mace-Nelson with her 29 year old former polo pony Tariba.

Meanwhile it was also fantastic to see a great showing again this year from Redwings Guardian horses, with Redwings Pandora, ridden by Telissa Latham, winning Ridden Best Rescue and Redwings Thyme ridden by Annabel Ramsey winning In Hand Best Rescue. Thyme was originally rescued from the Welsh commons and it is incredible to see the transformation in her. When Thyme first arrived at Redwings she was semi feral and incredibly nervous but she is now on her third guardian child, and always does an impeccable job at building their confidence.

Special mention must go to all the entrants in the fun showing classes, especially our Ring Four champions, the absolutely adorable combination of Isabel Allen and Redwings Aquarius who also won My Best Friend, and Monique Sharpe with Mr Bumble who stole the show in a hotly contested Handsomest gelding class.

We have had so many lovely comments from you about the day, thanks so much to all those who have taken the time to write in or speak to us. Simone Booty who won the Ridden Best Turned Out, with Chance Card, said: “What a fantastic day we had. We had a two-hour drive from Essex, but it was well worth it, such a great fun, well organised and friendly show.”

Show organiser, Emma Lacey, said: “It seems word is spreading so we had more entries than ever before and the standards are just getting higher every year. There were so many immaculately turned out horses and ponies, and there was fierce competition, but it was also so rewarding to hear that we had so many people who had never been to a show before and really enjoyed their first experience. Thanks to our fantastic judges and everyone who turned out to support us, and huge congratulations to all our class winners and participants.”

We would like to say a huge thank you to Easton College and to our class sponsors Express Equine, Spillers, Equestrobed, P.E & T. Services, Pony Tales Book Club, Pony Magazine, Feedmark, R.G. Rush Farriers, Centaur Services and Safe4; also huge thanks to Neil Fortescue Equestrian Photography for photographing the event.
