Sad loss of our beloved Sydney

We are very sorry to announce that our beloved adoption horse Sydney has passed away.

Sydney was 19 years old and had been a favourite at our Caldecott Visitor Centre in Norfolk for many years, where he could usually be seen with his best friend Icky. He was a very friendly chap and would always spend time at the fence chatting away to all the passers by and enjoying cuddles.

Unfortunately, poor Syd had for a long time been struggling with arthritis and over Winter he grew increasingly stiff and sore on his hind legs. Just as concerning, however, was the fact that over the last few weeks his carers had begun to notice a real change in his personality too - he became very depressed and not his usual self at all.

The vets decided to increase his medication in order to give him some enhanced pain relief but that meant he was on the maximum dose, which could not continue for too long. Even with the medication, Sydney still remained very unhappy and so the extremely difficult decision was made to put him to sleep to ensure he did not suffer.

Sydney was a very special chap who will be greatly missed by everyone here at the Sanctuary - and we know he had a great many friends out there amongst our supporters too - thank you for all your messages of sympathy and support.

If you would like to donate to our Sydney Memorial Fund, please telephone our Supporter Services Team on 01508 481010, thank you.
