Our Hapton Open Weekend is here!

This weekend we will be opening the gates of our HQ in Norfolk for a very special Summer Open Weekend, this year with a Silver Jubilee theme!

On July 11th and 12th our site at Hapton, south of Norwich will be open to the public, entry is free and the weekend will be jam-packed full of fun activities and demos to help celebrate this, our special 25th year.

Visitors will be able to enjoy tours of our equine veterinary facilities and Horse Hospital; hear a talk about handling equines who may be very nervous, scared or unused to human contact and watch re-homing demos to see what’s involved with getting a pony ready for a new home. In addition, this year there will be special displays and activities relating to Redwings ‘Celebrating 25 Years of Caring’. These include a ‘Recent Rescues’ tour; a talk on what happens when a newly-rescued resident arrives at the Sanctuary; displays of Redwings vehicles including farm vehicles such as quad bikes and tractors and the opportunity to find out more about the Redwings Nights Team who deal with everything from security to delivering foals while we are asleep! There will also be some fab children’s activities and even the chance to groom a Redwings pony!

On both days (Saturday 11th and Sunday 12th July) you are welcome to come along for lots of fun, pats and fresh air from 10am to 4pm. Our headquarters are normally closed to visitors as we also have three visitor centres around the country, in Norfolk, Essex and Warwickshire so this is an extra special chance to meet the people and the four-legged residents that work and live at Hapton.

Chief Executive Lynn Cutress is looking forward to welcoming people to Hapton during this special year. “Celebrating our Silver Jubilee is important to us as we’re extremely proud of the work we have done to help equines in the last 25 years. Opening our doors during our Summer Open Weekend gives us the chance to show the public what we have been doing since they last came, or to introduce new visitors to our work and horses in general. Children in particular love it here as for many it’s the first time they have met a donkey or pony so it’s a great free family fun day out.”

Light refreshments and delicious home-made cakes along with Fair Trade teas and coffees will be available to enjoy in the beautiful memorial gardens and the gift shop will be packed full of the latest Redwings gifts. Although a nominal charge may be made for extra activities such as grooming sessions with the ponies, entry to the weekend is completely free!
