Sad news about Victor the Shire
We are very sorry to announce the sad loss of beloved adoption Shire horse Victor, who passed away last month.
Victor was a very handsome 18.1hh Shire horse who lived at our Caldecott Visitor Centre near Great Yarmouth. He had been suffering with arthritis for some time, and over the past year it really began to take its toll on him. In April we decided to retire him from the adoption scheme to give him a break from the ‘limelight’ and we moved him to our Hapton site so he could be nearer to our veterinary unit where we could monitor his progress.

He then had a lovely Summer spent living in a field near our offices at our Hapton HQ where he was spoiled rotten by the staff here and seemed to enjoy life at a slightly slower pace.
However, over the past few weeks his carers have noticed a real change in him, he began looking very stiff and he was no longer engaging with them as he always used to. After careful examinations by our vet team, and with Winter approaching, they made the extremely difficult decision to put him to sleep to ensure he did not suffer.
We are so sad to lose this beautiful Shire horse, all the staff loved him dearly and we know how popular he was with you all too and how sad you will be to lose him.
Thanks so much to everyone who has already sent in their messages of support and sympathy at this sad time. If you would like to donate to the Victor Memorial Fund please telephone us on 01508 481010, thank you.
