Amersham verdict expected this morning
It was a welfare case that shocked the nation and this morning the verdict will be heard. At Redwings we have 29 of the equines in our care.
Many of you will remember that back in January 2008 Redwings assisted in the rescue of 97 horses, ponies and donkeys from a site in Amersham, Bucks. More than 30 of our staff along with eight of our horseboxes took part in the rescue, which was led by the RSPCA, and although we have had a lot of experience in large rescue operations, this has been described by many of those present as one of the saddest cases that they have witnessed.

Redwings took in 21 ponies and donkeys that day including Esther the donkey (pictured above) who had an entire fundraising campaign named after her! We have since had six foals born into our care, including Timothy (pictured below), the baby donkey who was born the day after they arrived. Since the rescue we have also welcomed two more of the equines into our care from another sanctuary for some handling training, and both are progressing well.

On Friday May 8th the verdict in what has been one of the longest running animal welfare cases in history will be heard at Bicester Magistrates Court. Five people are facing 12 charges relating to the Animal Welfare Act in a case which has been very in depth and has taken more than 50 days in court.
Naturally we are all very anxious about the result and we will be in a position to comment further on the case once the result has been announced. For press enquries please contact our Press Office on 01508 481014 or email nmarkwell@redwings.co.uk.
In the meantime our work continues. So far this year we have taken in more than 100 horses, ponies, donkeys and mules in need of help and in order to continue doing so we rely entirely on your continued support.
Thank you.
