Cleveland Bay (761KB)
Cleveland is the name of the area where this horse comes from and bay is
the colour that it comes in! Bay means that the horse has a brown body
and a black mane and tail.

Often mistaken for Shire horses, Clydesdales are of a similar height and
colouring but are a completely separate breed and come from a
different part of Britain.

'Dale' is a word used in the north of England to describe a large valley.
The Dales pony originated in a beautiful area of hills and valleys in West
Yorkshire and Cumbria.

Dartmoor is a large area of moorland in Devon. Its name comes from the
River Dart, which runs through the area.

Eriskay is one of several islands just off the west coast of Scotland. While traditional Scottish ponies on the mainland were being crossbred to increase their size and strength, the ponies tucked away on the islands remained unaltered.
