Redwings Ada Cole Rescue StablesIn October 2005 Redwings merged with the Ada Cole Memorial Stables in Essex, creating our fourth visitor centre, known as the Redwings Ada Cole Rescue Stables. The centre is based in Broadley Common, not far from Waltham Abbey. The charity originally opened its gates in 1932, moving to its present site in 1961, and it has a long established reputation in the field of equine welfare. Ada Cole herself was a pioneer in her struggle for equine justice. She worked tirelessly and her campaigning resulted in legislation to stop the exportation of live horses for the continental meat trade. Following her death in 1930, Ada Cole Memorial Stables was established in her memory and to ensure her invaluable work continued. The charity's mission has always been to rescue, rehabilitate and rehome horses, ponies, donkeys and mules. Broadlands is home to up to 60 horses at any one time but other than a number of permanent residents who cannot be rehomed, the majority there are looking for caring foster homes. The Visitor Centre itself has an attractive paddock walk, along which visitors can take a relaxing stroll and meet the centre's horsey residents. There is also a gift shop and light refreshments are available. To find out how to visit, go to the 'Visit Us' pages of this site or telephone our visitor helpline on 0870 040 0033. There are five animals available for adoption at the Essex site - to meet them go to the Adoptions pages or telephone 01508 481010 to find out more. Any previous sponsorship schemes will still be honoured for Ada Cole supporters, but please feel free to telephone us if you have any concerns.
