Redwings appoints Rehoming Manager
Redwings Horse Sanctuary has welcomed Emma Lacey to their Norfolk HQ as their first Rehoming Manager. Her first task will be to create a brand new team dedicated to securing homes for rescued horses with a potential for a working life.
As the largest horse charity in the UK, Redwings has always operated as a home for horses in need, providing a permanent place of sanctuary rather than actively securing loan homes. Any rehoming work to date has been carried out through other equine welfare organisations. Earlier this year, however, the charity decided the time was right for the creation of their own rehoming team, as their welfare rescues have increasingly included some young stock with a potential for a life outside a sanctuary environment.
With that in mind it was vital to find the right candidate to oversee the team.
BHSII Emma joins the charity from Cranleigh School Riding in Surrey, where she was the riding school manager. Previous roles have included manager of the riding side of the Calvert Trust (Kielder), providing riding and outdoor activities for disabled persons. Emma said, “I am delighted to join the charity at this exciting time and am really looking forward to ensuring that horses with a potential for a working life outside the Sanctuary can be secured a good home.”
Lynn Fielder BHSI, Redwings’ Head of Equine Operations and with overall responsibility for the new rehoming team said, “It’s an exciting time to be creating this new team. I look forward to working with Emma and putting to practical use my equestrian experience to ensure horses that can be ridden are matched with the right guardians.”
Redwings currently plan to merge with Essex-based charity Ada Cole Rescue Stables. Ada Cole already has an established rehoming scheme in addition to their rescue operation near Harlow. Should the merger take place the Ada Cole Rescue Stables would be called the Redwings Ada Cole Rescue Stables and come under the Redwings umbrella. John Archibald, Redwings Chief Executive, said, “With the creation of this new team and working with the rehoming knowledge developed from Ada Cole, we shall be able to expand our vital welfare work and help more horses in need secure the best quality of life.”
