Bunty and Lady
We love heavy horses here at Redwings! When the RSPCA asked to help with the retirement of two rescued Shires, we were only too pleased to offer them a place at the Sanctuary, especially when we heard their sad story and saw the pitiful condition they had been found in.

Bunty's bones were clearly visible when she was rescued.
The photographs taken just after their initial rescue speak for themselves. The two mares were also infested with lice and mites and this had led to a nasty skin infection which needed veterinary treatment. Treating mites also meant shaving those lovely Shire ‘feathers’ off; a real shame but hopefully they will grow back soon!

Mites and lice can cause nasty wounds if not dealt with.
Both Lady and Bunty are both older ladies, being about 20 years old. They have been together for many years and are very close. At Redwings they have been introduced to a group of Shires and other heavy horses, but are still very much best friends!
